How long do I have to wait between unlisting my house with an agent and selling it on my own without having to pay commission to the original listing agent?

Lori, each state has its own set of regulations. Most of the time you will have to wait out the contract which could be three months from signing. You will have to read your listing agreement. Keep in mind, if you sell your house to a buyer that was instruduced to you by the prior agent, you may in many cases still be liable for the commission even after the listing agreement expired. I would advise you to consult with legal counsel and make sure you read the entire listing agreement.
